Taste of Summer brings producers, makers, growers, distillers and chefs from across the island together on the Nipaluna/Hobart waterfront. But beyond the festival gates, there’s a whole lot more Tasmania waiting to be tasted.
Stay a little longer. Take the long way home. Follow the coast, head north, turn down the road you weren’t planning to take.
From cellar doors and farm gates to wild coastlines, small towns, mountain trails and some very good places to eat along the way, there’s plenty worth sticking around for.

HOBART + SOUTH
You’re already here. You may as well have a look around. Start with Hobart’s waterfront, restaurants, bars, galleries and markets, then head beyond the city. Bruny Island, the Huon Valley, the Tasman Peninsula and the Southern Midlands are all within reach – with plenty of good food, cool-climate wine, whisky, cider and wild landscapes in between.

LAUNCESTON + NORTH
Head north for vineyards, farm gates, good food and a city with plenty happening around the table. Explore Launceston, follow the Tamar Valley Wine Trail, meet the makers and producers of northern Tasmania or get out into the landscape. Come hungry.

NORTH WEST + WEST COAST
Keep going. The north west is home to rich farmland, passionate producers, coastal towns and some seriously wild country. Venture further west and things get even wilder – ancient rainforest, mountains, rivers and landscapes that feel a long way from anywhere.
Worth the drive? Absolutely.

EAST COAST
Take the coastal road north and don’t rush it. Long beaches, vineyards, seaside towns, oysters pulled straight from the water and fish and chips eaten with a view. Tasmania’s East Coast is made for detours, long lunches and stopping whenever something looks good.
